One of the barmiest DJs on the scene at this moment in time, The Gaslamp Killer aka William Benjamin Bensussen debuts on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix. Apparently he’s affectionately named after his obscure track selection; a selection that had a propensity to clear dance floors across San Diego’s Gaslamp district. However he has now found a place for his ambiguous sound with his own party ‘The Low End Theory’, which now plays a significant role in the LA underground. He has also recently released his debut album ‘Breakthrough’ on Flying Lotus‘ Brainfeeder label.

The mix takes you on a journey through US experimental Hip Hop, electronica, psych rock as well as many other abstract genres, all of which have been mixed seamlessly. Admittedly not a mix we would naturally jump on at Blah Blah Blah, however with tracks from the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Raekwon, Radiohead, Roots Manuva, Mr Oizo, Aphex twin and Black Sabbath featured we can assure you that if you’re truly a music lover this is well worth a listen. Pigeon hole him at your own peril.
