It would appear the current trend in music editorial is predicting the latest big thing. I guess there are plenty of kudos points on offer if you get it right, plus its a fairly risk free activity as no one is likely to remember that obscure name you touted that eventually amounted to very little. The latest established source of new music to nail their 2013 predictions on the mast is Pete Tong’s ‘Essential Mix’. Part one last week put forward Perseus and Jonas and this week is the turn of Duke Dumont.
Duke Dumont is an interesting choice as in reality he was most likely touted a Future Star back in 2007. However since then the Duke has been a little quiet, and it wasnt until 2012’s ‘The Giver’ that people sat up and took notice again. The Giver followed the equally accomplished ‘Street Walker’ and alerted DJs and clubbers to a talented producer they most likely had forgotten or simply didnt know. Ultimately this is a second chance for the Duke, and with the success of ‘The Giver’ we would agree that 2013 could be his year, again.
