Tech – Cubase Tutorial: Elastique Pro Extreme Stretching (Pt 1)

Time stretching is a technique which can be used for corrective and creative purposes in Digital Music production. Corrective time stretching can sync up a piece of audio to match the tempo of your project, whereas creative can be used to create abstract sounds and textures from previously familiar samples. Point Blank Online Music Production School are back yet again with a new series of tutorials that look at the new Elastique Pro time stretch mode in Cubase 6.

In the video below Danny J Lewis time stretches one of his own tracks by 1000% to create a very bizarre soundscape, before cutting various samples out of the track, which he then maps to ‘Groove Agent One’ for some very clever sampling.

The technique Danny has shown is an excellent way of creating conceptual sounds that you can use in future projects on the fly. Mapping the samples to a sampler means that you have a library of hassle free textures at your finger tips, thus expanding your sonic capabilities as a musician beyond standard sampling and synthesis.
