Jowaa ‘Banku Dade’ think M.I.A, Flume, Pon De Floor
“Is it trap music, future bass, experimental, tribal, or something else. We have no idea! Sorry. To be honest its official categorisation is not really that important. All you need to know is that Jowaa ‘Banku Dade’ is dancefloor accelerant. A catalyst for dancing”…
Jowaa ‘Banku Dade’ [Branko Presents: Enchufada Na Zona]
As we alluded to earlier we don’t really know how you would categorise Jowaa ‘Banku Dade’, it kinda falls in that jumbled mass of artists who are all about the energy and not so much the rules. Which is usually when something breaks out musically. Take all the great musical innovations – Punk, Hip-Hop, House Music, Techno, Rock & Roll, Jungle etc. The one thing these all had in common was a two-finger salute to the rules. That said it’s very easy for anything pioneering to be quickly assimilated and subsequently de-punked. Dubstep probably being the best example in recent years…Which is why this record is important.
Now we’re not suggesting that ‘Banku Dade’ represents the next greatest musical innovation, we’re not wise, or well versed enough to make such a prediction. You’d probably need to ask someone over at Pitchfork or Resident Advisor for that sort of prophetic insight. However what we do know is that its ambiguity represents a sound free of established convention and energy sapping rules.
