“Spookily brilliant electro collaboration”…
The hype has been building for the last 12 months with a slew of singles, remixes, mixtapes and stomping live performances. The waiting is over with the full album released this Monday, and DJ Mag (see below) agree with us that this is an essential addition to your record collection.
Given BG is a collaboration between Simon Lord and Theo Keating, a few surprises are more or less hidden in the tin. Even so, there should be more warning about how varied and, in parts, enjoyable and (hooray!) Kinks-like this ride is. Opening with the downbeat of ‘Some Way Through This’, were given pop dance with ‘Face’, bouncy breaks via ‘Anyway you choose to give it’ and ‘I dont Know’ and pure pop funk with ‘Its your Touch’. Singalong strummed bass punk-funk single fodder comes from ‘Repetition Kills You’, although stronger and more interesting arrangements feature on ‘I want Nothing’ and LP highlights ‘Something New’ and ‘Full Moon’.
Delicious….5/5
