Hackman is yet another promising DJ/producer to spring out of almost nowhere in 2011. Stamping his authority on the scene with the EP “Close” which got tonnes of support from DJ’s around the UK including Annie Mac, Robert Dietz and live act phenomenon Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. He’s had releases on labels such as Greco-Roman, PTN, Grizzly and Well Rounded as well as his ‘Close’ track featuring on a Ministry Of Sound compilation earlier this year. The 21 year old from Leeds has had comparisons to MJ Cole, Jamie XX and the like in recent months with his unique and radio friendly flare for poppy, melodic bass driven garage.
Hackman recently announced the impending release of his debut album ‘As Above, So Below’ whilst releasing his new single Agree to Disagree, both on PTN Records. The track “Agree to Disagree” is based primarily around a catchy, chopped up vocal and a sweet melody which is contrasted with a heavy sub and punchy tropical drums. Certainly one for those peak time moments in a club environment. The B-side “Sunburst” also caught our attention with its bright stabby hook, bassline and distant ambient synths creating a sense of space, warmth and happiness. All in all an intriguing introduction to the forthcoming LP.
