Mixtape NYC Style: Kim Ann Foxman – The Lot Radio Do you find that mixtapes all too often flatter to deceive? Their either chock full of obvious bangers, or the DJ is trying to be so clever that their track selection lacks flow, or, and worst of all, it's just plain boring. This is so often the case that most days we simply can't be bothered. Which is a shame as mixtapes were what got us into dance music in the first place. That said, like all the best new music discoveries, we occasionally stumble across something a bit special. Previous such discoveries include Bicep - Synthol Hit, Joris Voorn - Balance 014, Todd Terje - Essential Mix, DJ ... Read more / Preview track

Minimal tech-house glory: Makcim & Levi Remix via Mountain People You know that House music that is often called Deep House where the DJ turns the bass off and then turns the bass back on to get your hands in the air? Well, technically this is that type of record. However to leave our description there would be an unfair generalisation of this sound, the DJs who play it, and the record featured here: Mountain People 011.2 – Makcim & Levi Remix. In truth a better genre classification, as used by Phonica and Juno, would be Minimal / Tech-House. A classification that indicates that what you’re actually getting will be stripped back, mostly likely ... Read more / Preview track

Bonobo – Surface (feat. Nicole Miglis) [ Listen Now ] Typically as the end of a year approaches our bodies and minds, particularly in the UK, begin to shift down a few gears. Apart from frantic Christmas shopping, the donning of cliched Christmas jumpers and the trepidation of awkward family gatherings are work ethic begins to drop off a little. It's a though Christmas triggers a collective agreed consciousness that working hard is no longer required. A fact that probably infuriates many an overly enthusiastic middle manager. Yet despite this general slowing of the pace it would appear Bonobo, in stark contrast, has no intention of slowing down, ... Read more / Preview track

Banoffee Pies – Black Label 02.1 [ Tech-House ] Bristol based Banoffee Pies are rapidly establishing themselves as the go to label if you need to spice up a flagging DJ set. Throwing together flavour combinations that on paper shouldn't work, but in reality are irresistibly moreish... Dont believe us? Than check Adam Stromstedt's fantastic Hip-Hop influenced Rent, which we featured earlier in the year. Admittedly, as we said in our previous feature, there is a predominately bar feel to their output, and therefore if you're a BANGER based specialist, they may not be the label for you. That said the recently released Black Label 02.1 ... Read more / Preview track

Girl Unit – Intoxicated [ New Music ] Remember Girl Unit - Wut? We do, it was an absolute bass banger, but unbelievably it is now 6 years old, and in all honesty the Night Slugs cohort has never quite fully realised that initial promise. Yet despite this minor shortcoming and an average output of one track per year the name Girl Unit still commands considerable respect amongst it's peers. And with that comes a healthy level of interest and expectation in his music. So here we are 6 years on with what is potentially his 6th release - Intoxicated. For any Girl Unit fans among you, you no doubt recognise the above image, also ... Read more / Preview track

Music News: Bonobo – Break Apart (feat. Rhye) Bonobo - Break Apart, is the second single to be taken from Bonobo's upcoming LP 'Migration' and it can be streamed in full now. As with the preceding single Kerala what sounds like a harp has again taken centre stage, and like before it creates a deep sense of emotive melancholy. However whilst Kerala is ostensibly an instrumental, this second single calls upon the vocal talents of Michael Milosh, one half of Rhye, to add a yearningly poignant top line to Bonobo's initial composition. Combined these two performances draw you into a sorrowful yet beautiful story of regret and loss. A ... Read more / Preview track
