Two contrasting free downloads, but free none the less. Four Tet for the more pastel coloured among you and Ejeca for those who are a little more glittery. Four Tet‘s ‘Unspoken’ is a haunting piano track that is taken from his seminal 2003 LP ‘Rounds’. Rounds has just been reissued (Buy Here) to mark its 10th anniversary, and if you are new to Four Tets earlier more electronica based work, ‘Unspoken’ is the perfect introduction. Ejeca on the other hand is not trying to conjure up images of the past, he has simply gone, club, disco, house, done. So Good To Me (Ejeca Remix) is grooving vocal house at its quintessential looping best.
Radiohead’s front man has collaborated with Four Tet previously, most notably on 2011′s Ego / Mirror 12 inch, which also featured the irrepressible stepper Burial. This time up Four Tet gets the remix treatment on behalf of Thom Yorke’s latest project ‘Atoms For Peace‘. Four Tet stated on twitter “Its so Fucking Good”….and who are we to disagree.
You can catch Atoms For Peace headlining this years EXIT Festival – July 10-14th, and we can’t think of a more glorious setting for their other worldly rhythms. Enjoy.
Certainly did not expect this, Four Tet remixing former N Sync front man Justin Timberlake. To be brutally honest I clicked play on this with considerable trepidation. This is not to say we are being musically snobbish, but for us Timberlake is an enjoyable guilty pleasure at a family wedding, whilst Four Tet is the kind of artist not even your parents would get down to, regardless of what’s being served. As remixes go it works quite well, but Im not entirely sure what the marketing ploy is behind linking a huge pop icon with a highly respected underground electronic producer, certainly cant see a load of bass heads suddenly rushing out to buy the latest Timberlake record. Having said that this post is probably the exact reason this remix has been commissioned, if in fact its an official remix, let us know what you think…….
Four Tet likes a nice surprise, and today he has announced a new LP of rarities. 0181 is a collection of archived sounds recorded between 1997 – 2001. For those fans among you who pre-date the ‘Pause’ album and his more recent straight up beats, this is a real treat of classic Four Tet left-field electronica. The album is currently available for free download via his Soundcloud and word has it that 0181 will also get a full vinyl release later in the year.
