Claude VonStroke – Essential Mix (Oct 2013) Pete Tong and Radio 1 celebrated 20 years of the Essential Mix last weekend at the Warehouse Project with 1993's original inductee headlining proceedings….. one Mr Pete Tong. As you would imagine from an Essential Mix vs Warehouse Project collaboration the lineup was a little mental with Eats Everything, Sasha, James Zabiela, Skream, Booka Shade among others, all playing. Whilst the lineup certainly had the required gravitas it felt a little too present day led, with artists on the bill who haven't even recorded an Essential Mix! However tickets have to be sold and any promoter will tell ... Read more / Preview track

Ben UFO – Essential Mix (October 2013) So can a DJ these days really be successful without any of his own music. Generally the answer to that is an emphatic no, however broad generalisations generally mean that there is the odd exception. In this case the exception we are referring to is the exceptional Hessle Audio co-owner Ben UFO. Admittedly his forward thinking label founded with the equally progressive thinking Pearson Sound and Pangea has certainly helped his cause, however you dont get an Essential Mix for just having a highly regarded underground record label, there needs to be a bit more under the hood. Pop that hood and ... Read more / Preview track

Disclosure – Essential Mix (August 2013) Download We had the privilege of Disclosure playing our 6th Birthday back in May of this year, upon which we discovered they had come to BBB's 2nd ever Birthday back in 2009 amongst other BBB parties and if that tip of the hat was not enough for our fragile ego's they agreed to join us at the afterparty for some b2b DJ action. These guys are not only supremely talented song writers, 5th in DJ Mags Top UK Hit Song Writers 2013, but also proper gentlemen. Although dont let Guy near your lighting rig.......questionable results! Name dropping aside, apologies for that, the Lawrence brothers have had an ... Read more / Preview track

Todd Terje – Essential Mix (July 2013) Download Todd Terje is perhaps most widely recognised for 2012's 'Inspector Norse', however he first came to our attention with the chugging dance floor weapon 'Ragysh', which earnt itself the number 5 spot in Resident Advisors Top 50 tracks of 2011. Ragysh actually marked a return to the music community after a 5 year hiatus for the Scandinavian, and since then, for want of a better cliché, he hasnt looked back. 'Inspector Norse' quickly followed with its summery melodic synth setting a warm twinkling thread for future records, such as Hot Chips - How Do You Do? remix and his most recent records ... Essential Mix – Maya Jane Coles (May 2013) Maya Jane Coles biggest DJ on the planet? Hard to say for sure, but whatever your opinion she is most definitely Top 10, a fact that the last  two end of year RA Polls certainly back, with her securing a 9th position in 2011 and a 10th in 2012. Maya has built an infallible reputation as both DJ and producer, crafting sets and music that effortlessly compliment each other. There has always been a contemplative vocal quality to her work, however this has never over stayed its welcome as Maya's acute awareness of the dancefloor ensures there is always a pounding beat and infectious hook not far ... Essential Mix – Will Saul (April 2013) This is a proper Essential Mix, coming from Aus Music's founder and curator Will Saul. Preparation, personal edits, exclusive material, 3 months of planning and testing track combinations, Will Saul has a true passion for electronic music, not a vacuous need for hollow superstar DJ status, to Will this is music first and foremost. Will Saul has been writing and releasing music since the early 2000's and is undoubtedly influenced by the then waning Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman progressive house movement. In both releases and mix composition Saul generally saunters into view as ... Read more / Preview track

Catz n Dogz – Essential Mix (April 2013) For some Catz N Dogz might be a bit of a new phenomena, for others a well worn pair of comfy slippers, but whatever your disposition Catz N Dogz are trusted purveyors of slick, tight and crisp tech-house type beats, whether it be their own productions or cuts from their own label, Pets Recordings. As you would expect there isnt much variation from a solid 4x4 pattern, so dont expect wild 'Atoms of Peace Essential Mix' type flourishes, but what you can expect is well thought out seamlessly flowing house beats, that provide the perfect accompaniment to a pre-clubbing gathering. Their Essential ... Read more / Preview track

Atoms For Peace – Essential Mix (March 2013) So Thom Yorke & Nigel Godrich took over the Essential Mix decks this weekend. We didn't really know what to expect from this, other than it was going to be anything but straight forward beats. Thom Yorke's latest solo project 'Atoms For Peace' has taken his Eraser template and stripped it down to its elemental parts creating a disjointed yet oddly mesmerising piece of electronica. For some 'Atoms For Peace' might be a little to introspective, but for those of you, like us, who adore all things Radiohead AMOK and this mix are essential listening. However word of warning this mix is about ... Read more / Preview track
