Maya Jane Coles – Protect Them (FREE DOWNLOAD via Comfort LP) Maya Jane Coles, pop princess or underground clubber? Since 2010 Maya Jane's deep melodic beats have been resonating on a global clubbing scale, with her own productions, remixes and mixes propelling her into the DJ Elite. In the last two years alone she has found herself in the Top 10 of Resident Advisors highly regarded end of year DJ poll. Maya Jane's music has predominately been club focused, however as her style has evolved and solidified it has become ever more apparent that she isnt just a formulaic button pusher, but actually a bit of a songstress, perhaps most obvious in 2012's ... Midland & JD Twitch (Optimo) 12″ – Autonomous Africa EP Midland and JD Twitch (Optimo) combine to deliver a charity record that is more than just a charitable purchase. This is the second Autonomous Africa EP, the idea being that one EP is released each year with all the proceeds donated to a charity in Africa. On this occasion the proceeds will go to 'The Mtandika Mission' in Tanzania which is helping educate orphaned and extremely poor children learn the skills they need to break the cycle of poverty. Unlike some Charity records this is not just a grab your money and run effort, you get the feeling those behind it, Midland & JD Twitch, ... Read more / Preview track

George Fitzgerald – Boiler Room (June 2013) Download Alongside Midland, Joy Orbison, and KiNK, George Fitzgerald is one of the most consistent producers out there in our humble opinion, and if you've had the chance to catch him live, you'll know he's a pretty damn fine selector also. One of those DJs who doesnt just know his way around a synth patch, but also understands the dynamics of well judged DJ set. Thankfully on this Boiler Room outing we are treated to Fitzgerald crafting his own vibe, without the limitations of b2b getting in the way, and the mix is hugely stronger for it. Whether you are new or an established Fitzgerald convert we ... Read more / Preview track

South London Ordnance announces new label – Aery Metals with debut EP ‘He Do The Police In Different Voices’ Do we really need another record label? South London Ordnance has just announced his own soon to be unleashed imprint 'Aery Metals', adding himself to a long list of DJs and Producers who sport their own label. Is it just a status symbol, something that all producers feel they need to be excepted, or is it a worth while enterprise that introduces us mere listeners to great new music? I guess in theory the answer to the above question really comes down to the motives behind the label, motives that will no doubt have huge influence on the quality of the labels output. However it is concievably ... Read more / Preview track

Tech: Audiojack – Retrospective House (Loopmasters) Sample Pack Review There are many ways for electronic music producers to earn a living, releasing music, performing etc, however for a select few, who have the ability and their own marketable sound, a specialised sample pack is an emerging source of income. Audiojack have now joined fellow peers by teaming up with Loopmasters to create their own signature sample pack. James Rial and Richard Burkinshaw AKA Audiojack have had some sizeable records in recent years, including releases on 20/20 vision, Get Physical, Tsuba, Off Recordings and their own imprint Guuv, resulting in a very impressive back catalogue, ... College – Un Long Sommeil / Départ from forthcoming Heritage LP Why are bands these days so obsessed with loading their stage with every synth imaginable to then only play a simplistic chord or fire off some annoyingly obvious moody patch, whilst looking slightly apprehensive about touching anything else. A particular frustration is when a band pretends to be old skool by throwing in a traditional AKAI MPC into their setup and then proceeding to pretty much ignore it apart from launching the odd sample. In our purest world bands should just be Bass, Lead Guitar, Drums, Singer and maybe a keyboard, leaving the synths to those who know how to use them. ... Read more / Preview track

Guy Andrews – Annum EP / 7am (Fina Records) Preview As DJs and Writers the summer months can be a maddening mix of DJs tweeting every other day what amazing festival they have just played, jealous, and a drought of quality new music, which actually makes us appreciate the also slightly annoying winter month tweets, just stepped into my studio. At least with a studio tweet we know something is being cooked up that we can eventually listen to and share. Thankfully not everyone goes into release hibernation over the summer months and Fina Records have elected to release fellow Brightonian, Guy Andrews, surprisingly optimistic Annum EP. Guy ...
