Featured Artist – Djrum First up we would like to welcome the newest addition to the Blah Blah Blah writing team in the shape of the prodigious talent Lorca. Hailing from Brighton, UK, Lorca has quickly established himself as a producer who draws influence from various quarters. Whilst the bass movement has clearly inspired and galvanised his music it certainly does not solely define it, with an exquisite use of soulful vocals, intricate percussion and smooth sub-bass Lorca has created a contemporary yet distinctly unique sound, check his critically received singles, Moments, Hold Back and Can't See Higher. However ... Read more / Preview track

Tiga – The Picture (Crosstown Rebels) Back in 2003 Damian Lazarus launched Crosstown Rebels whilst Tiga was dazzling the electronic scene with his Sunglasses At Night single and Turbo Recordings imprint. At this time both artists and labels were operating in the same field, releasing and playing each others tracks whilst enjoying the swell of public support for the emerging left of centre take on Techno & Electroclash, which eventually blew up to be dubbed Electro. However since then we have seen differing fortunes, with Tiga initially profiting whilst Crosstown suffered and now the opposite being the case, and therefore it ... Read more / Preview track

Essential Mix – Solomun (2012) In a few short years Deep House has gone from being shunned to lauded the world over, resulting in artists such as Solomun, Jamie Jones, Art Department, Benoit & Sergio, and Maceo Plex among others being propelled into the stratosphere. How is it then that a genre that was frankly uncool become such a global phenomena? Back in 06/07 the time when Solomun launched his Diynamic imprint Funky House was coming to the end of its commercial reign in clubland. While Funky House was not considered to be Deep House the lines often got blurred resulting in the tendrils of Funky House cynicism ... Read more / Preview track

BrEaCh & Midland – 101 It would appear 2012 is all about who you can collaborate with, but are two heads really better than one? Next up BrEaCh aka Ben Westbeech is to enter the fray with his recently announced Midland collaboration '101', due to be released on his 'Naked Naked' label. Midland himself is recently fresh from a collaborative project with Pariah and it would appear that his new techno edge has taken the lead on this effort. 101 like a number of tracks before it successfully combines techno beats and clanking synths with an accessible main room hook, in this case a 90's rave riff and vocal loop. ... Jon Convex – XLR8R 257 Mixtape In recent times Jon Convex has been somewhat overshadowed by his former Instra:Mental sparring partner Boddika. However, despite his somewhat lower public profile its not as though Damon Kirkham aka Jon Convex has been sitting around licking his wounds, far from it. He has put out a number of critically received 12's on respected labels such as 3024, Naked Lunch and his own Convex Industries, whilst all the while preparing the release of his debut solo album IDORU. If that wasnt enough Jon Convex has also found the time to design all the artwork for the new album, create an accompanying ... Read more / Preview track

Electronic Artist of the Week #20 – Paleman Yet another artist who reveal's little, makes stripped back bass inspired techno and most likely wax's lyrical about the virtues of vinyl. Whilst the back story might be the increasingly familiar ambiguous tale there is one thing that is very much clear and that is the quality of the music. Paleman hails from Manchester and first came to our attention with his 'Hunt' track which featured on Disclosure's recent FACT mix, since then we have learned that the likes of Loefah, Ben UFO, Mary Anne Hobbs, and Mosca have all been spinning his tunes, that he is a keen student of Jazz drumming and ... SBTRKT – Gloss Delightful new cut from SBTRKT that he has just literally uploaded to his Soundcloud. Gloss has Chemical Brothers type guitar distortion running throughout with a downbeat Four Tet type piano riff giving the track a distinctly thoughtful yet summery feel. Looking forward to getting our hands on this. Thanks to FACT mag for the heads ... Read more / Preview track
