The Grizzl is non other than San Francisco's Claude VonStroke, and combined with fellow Dirtybird label mate J.Phlip they have produced a Booty shaking House track that tips its hat to UK Funky, Bass House, Fidget and of course the revitalised Roland 808. Unfortunately we missed this on release, however its now firmly nestled within our record bag. Out now via Juno Records.
The Grizzl & J.Phlip – Bakupgrl is out now via Juno.
Ive been debating whether to post this on our own blog for a few weeks now as it seems a little self indulgent, however some trusted allies recommended I did as they think it deserves a post....(their words, not mine). So here it is, WeAreBlahBlahBlah - Left is our first ever self penned production after 6 months of intensive You Tube tutorial training. Left is a bit of a builder so make sure you dont miss the breaks and try and avoid laptop speakers if you can.
I should also say a big thank you to Pelski and James Kendall at Source Magazine who both featured our track in their respective publications, giving us the confidence to write this post.
Julio Bashmore has been on a bit of a roll of late, what with the amazing 'Everybody Needs a Theme Tune' and 'Batty Knee Dance' EPs, and now he has produced another classic with his remix of Classixx's - Into the Valley. Bashmore takes the original tracks lead male vocal, strips it from its electro synth pop surroundings before building it into what can only be described as a Classic House track. The vocal takes on a totally different quality from the original as Bashmore expertly introduces layer after layer of House nostalgia before taking the track to another level with the subtle introduction of a beautifully understated Rave riff. We cannot recommend this highly enough. Click Here to get your free copy.

Sigha aka James Shaw is a London based Techno producer who we have been aware of for quite a while, however it wasn’t until we heard his 'Fold' track on last months Hotflush Recordings 'Back And 4th' Compilation that his sound truly started to resonate with us. Fold twisted his more reserved echo’y Techno formula into a slightly more dance floor focused direction with crisper beats and percussion, and its this approach that takes the fore in his soon be released self titled Sigha EP.
As way of intro the The 2 Bears are made up of Joe Goddard (Hot Chip) and Raf Rundell (Greco-Roman Soundsystem) and combined they make curious Indie-Electro House. Bear Hug is their 3rd EP and it follows in the esteemed footsteps of their 'Follow the Bears' and 'Curious Nature' EPs. As with the previous EP's The 2 Bears build their tracks around a solid groove and live tinged drum track giving their music a more dynamic feel as the electro synths and vocals work their way into the mix. The lead track 'Bear Hug' is our recommended pick, however all 4 tracks are worth a listen and are all strong contenders for a tidy remix package, which usually follows a 2 Bear release. For example check the superb Midland and TEED remixes on the Curious Nature EP.
The 2 Bears - Bear Hug EP - Released 20th June (Southern Fried)
After a long and fruitless day of sifting through emails, scouring Soundcloud and various other portals of new music Id almost given up hope of finding anything worth talking about....until a chance Beatport encounter.
Deadboy is not someone we have talked about before, although we have been aware of him since the excellent 'If You Want Me' was released on Numbers in 2010. Well he's back on Numbers again and this time he has served up a 3 track EP featuring the instantly gratifying disco tinged houser 'Wish U Were Here' alongside two less immediate but by no means inferior underground bass sounding tracks 'Here 4 U' and 'Aint Gonna Lie'.
Overall a fine EP that will no doubt find its way into many a playlist.
Dark Sky have been gathering quite a head of steam in recent months and this latest remix is simply a stunning piece of heartfelt downtempo that is sure to propel them yet further into the Electronic elite. Dark Sky have taken the original vocal and given it a more haunting quality whilst beefing up the rest of the track with a carefully blended mix of bass, kick and percussion. The overall effect is a track that is both relevant at home, and in the right DJ's hands the dance floor.
Alpines has been out for a few months on 10" vinyl and is also available digitally via itunes.
Duke Dumont first came to our attention way back in 2007 (yes that year again) with his Regality EP on Turbo Recordings. Regality was a three track EP but it was two tracks in particular 'Lean & Bounce' and 'When I Hear Music' that propelled Duke Dumont into the limelight and perhaps un-wittingly a standard bearer alongside the likes of Sinden, Crookers, Herve et al for the emerging Fidget sound. Since then the Duke Dumont sound has been somewhat less prolific and on occasion overly eclectic which might explain why we haven't heard as much from him in recent times.
Anyway he's back and he's latest mixtape demonstrates that 2007 was no fluke with a smoothly crafted mix that perfectly balances eclectic charm with dancefloor focus as it ebs and flows between Main Room killer and Room 2 something different. In particular check his superb remix of 'Yes Wizard'
'The Dawn Is Your Enemy' mix was released a few weeks ago via the Duke's Soundcloud account and now we have been asked to host it as part of our WeAreBlahBlahBlah series. Enjoy.
Boddika aka one half of Instra:Mental has just put his track 'Spray' up for free download. According to his Soundcloud he uploaded it over 9 months ago, however Ive not heard it before and Im guessing many of you reading this havent either, so lets not worry to much and just enjoy another great cut from the Boddika catalogue. Spray is a brooding Techno rumbler that is built around a rolling groove, with dark and fizzing synths that build and swirl around the listener from start to finish.
You should know by now that SebastiAn is ready to drop his long awaited debut LP at the end of the month. We received the album a couple of weeks ago and will be posting a full review in the next couple of days, in the mean time we will leave you with his 80's Prince influenced track 'Love in Motion.
Nice little Teaser from the forthcoming Russ Chimes EP - Tonic // Helix, sounds like it could be a big one judging by the riff clocking in at 1.39.....
First up thanks to XLR8R for alerting us to this. Kingdom - Uptown Buck is taken from the upcoming Trouble & Bass Release - 'Sounds of New York EP', an EP which also features the eminent NY producers Drop the Lime, Michna, Cubic Zirconia, and Hussle Club.
Due to be released May 17th.
Uptown Buck is another slice of Kingdom magic that we strongly recommend getting your hands on, which is fortunate as its being given away as a full 320 download.....
BOK BOK is next on the Night Slugs release schedule with his 5 track Southside EP. As you would expect from a Night Slugs release the EP takes on its own unique persona with a refreshing take on Bass and House. Released - 31st May
Toddla T's new single 'Take it Back' has already had the Moombahton treatment by Dillon Francis and now the excellent 2 Bears have offered up a grooving Houser for those who arent quite feeling the slowed down Moombahton sound. This is another choice remix making 'Take it Back' a very strong release and well worth checking.
Latest single from Joker, aired on Radio 1 for the first yesterday and uploaded to You Tube only a matter of hours ago by the man himself. The track itself has Joker's trade mark crisp production growling basslines and rasping synths, however this time he has overlaid the track with a Cruel Intentions / Magnetic Man type female vocal. On the whole works well, although not as strong as say Tron or Digidesign, but sure to do the business on the dance floors.
SBTRKT announced this week the details of his first full length LP alongside the debut airing of the new single 'Wildfire' on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show. The self-titled LP is due to be released on the 27th June via Young Turks Records and is set to include a number of interesting collaborations. If the new single is anything to go by this LP maybe offering a slightly more accessible and coherent version of the SBTRKT sound, not that any of his trade mark sub and crunching synths are missing but more he has added a slightly more commercial sheen. However I am basing this observation on one track, a track that should definitely alert a broader audience to the SBTRKT sound. I’m looking forward to hearing the complete record.
Tracklisting:
01 Heatwave
02 Hold On
03 Wildfire
04 Sanctuary
05 Trials Of The Past
06 Pharaohs
07 Something Goes Right
08 Right Thing To Do
09 Ready Set Loop
10 Never Never
11 Go Bang
Claude VonStroke remixes Girl Units epic 'Wut' to great effect, adding a nice sub bass platform that is less obvious than the original but creates a nice epic effect alongside the panning synth effects and 808 clicks. If you listen to this through just your laptop speakers you'll miss what im talking about.
Last months BlahBlahBlah guest Bowski is at it again with another superb remix. This time its Disco of Doom who get the Bowski treatment. As you would expect the track is full of groove, quirky sounds, pounding beats, drama and pulsating synth hooks. Can this dude do no wrong?
Disco of Doom - Invader EP (OUT NOW) on Discobelle Records
Turbo are celebrating 100 releases with a special limited edition Vinyl box set May 30th and a Digital release May 31st. Across the two formats Turbo have drafted in no less than 10 different artists to re-work the ZZT banger ZZafrika, including Gesaffelstein, Julio Bashmore, Clouds, Sounds of Stereo, and Tomas Andersson. For those who dont know ZZT is a collaborative project between label owner Tiga and Florian Senfter AKA Zombie Nation, combined they are responsible for three electro monsters,'Lower State of Consciousness', 'The Worm' and 'ZZafrika'.
One of the picks from this monster release is the superb Gesaffelstein Remix. Check below to listen:
Since Disney signed up Daft Punk to score their Tron Legacy movie it would appear that signing a global dance act to score you action thriller is the current movie must have. Since Tron we've had The Chemical Brothers score the movie 'Hanna' and now Basement Jaxx have just revealed the track 'The End' taken from their 'Attack the Block' score. Next up......The Prodigy.
Attack the Block is a British Comedy Horror set in a South London Council Estate, suggesting that the complete soundtrack may see Basement Jaxx stepping away from their usual jacking party beats in a favour of a less familiar darker sound.
This is a new feature we introduced last month, which will simply collate together a load of tracks over an un-specified amount of time that we consider essential listening. As always with these types of things there maybe certain tracks you've already heard, tracks we've missed or accidentally overlooked, so please feel free to hit up the comments with anything you think is indispensable.
Stepping back in time today, first Breakbot and now we have Golden Bug funking us up with his latest EP Magia Potagia on Gomma Recordings. As you would expect from Golden Bug it's pure dancefloor funk and groove backed by a driving House beat. For us the standout moments are 'U Are Magic' and 'Tekila', although Tekila would have perhaps benefitted from the key vocal refrain being dropped in favour of something a little less cheesy, unfortunately for me that word always reminds me of Terrorvision's - Tequila....
Breakbot has clearly raided his copies of Michael Jacksons 'Off the Wall' and 'Thriller' LP's for his latest single, and while the influences are laid bare for all to see there is no denying that this is superbly executed, even if it does sound like a bit of a homage to the former 'King of Pop'.
