Dan Avery AKA Stopmakingme has always been destined for electronic stardom, and in the last few months things have really started to take shape as his self penned productions have started to emerge. His first EP 'Wrapped in Plastic' was a solid EP of tightly looped sounds, pumping bass layered with energetic 808 and live sounding percussion. Although a solid EP it was unlikely to change the course of musical folk lore, but it did suggest Mr Avery was someone to keep an eye on, and his follow up 'Rattle EP' justifys this faith.
Rattle EP's first two tracks take reference from 'Wrapped in Plastic' and expand on those early ideas, incorporating stronger riffs, punchier rhythm and a clever use of peaks and drops to give the tracks real energy, but its the 3rd track 'Tempo' that really caught our attention. Again using similar ideas but with much more of an innovative twist on track structure and funnily enough tempo.
Stopmakingme - Rattle EP (Bang Gang) - Out Feb 28th
It’s the weekend and we have a special little treat to get you in the party mood in the shape of an exclusive 'Lil Silva - Lovebox's Bangs the Box Mixtape'. Lil Silva of Night Slugs notoriety kindly recorded this for the Lovebox crew in anticipation of his set at 'Bang the Box' presents 'Night Slugs' at XOYO on March 5th.
The mix itself is exactly what you would expect from a member of the Night Slugs collective, UK Funky Dubstep type sounds and vibe underpinned by a rolling house beat and erratic percussion. Overall this is a great little mix that deserves your attention and a download, enjoy.

Leeds based DJ & Producer Midland is the 5th in our 'Electronic Artist of the Week' series and couldn't be more appropriate when you consider in a recent interview with Pelski he sites our home town 'Brighton' and 'The Big Beach Boutique 2' as pivotal moments in his musical genesis.
Midland like a number of new producers that have emerged in the last 8-10 months simply makes electronic music, and what I mean by this is that his sounds, structure and influences are not restricted to any single genre or trend, taking reference from House, Techno, Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Electronica and beyond. Combined the Midland sound has a distinct House foundation which is layered with strong percussion, deep sub-bass, and a melodic atmosphere which gives his music a soul beyond the dancefloor. This is not to say his tracks lack Dancefloor punch or energy, but his records are not Peak Time Electro bangers, and the better for it.
Check his Facebook for a show near you and if you live in Brighton UK, you can catch him this weekend at Sneaker Social Club

2010 proved to be a good year for thoughtful electronica, with Four Tet, Caribou, Gold Panda and a few others littering a host of respected 'Best Of' lists. 2011's first contender comes in the form of Egyptrixx's debut.
Bible Eyes - Released March 7th (Night Slugs)
Bible Eyes provides ten tracks of complete restraint. Each centred on an abstract synthesiser that pulses and oscillates in the fore. Surrounding these squirming lead lines is a myriad of tiny, taps, hits and scrapes that pop and patter in every possible direction. Egyptrixx's use of space and sound is so expert that it seems like he's found more than the normal 360 degrees to place his music in. The breadth of his genres are just as wide as the vista of his soundscapes. Taking the listener through the expected house and techno but with darker ambient moments, the bass-laden shuffle that releasing label, Night Slugs, are known for and even pop! 'Chrysalis Records' takes detuned, echoing synths and a skittering drum track and transforms them into an eery pop song with the addition of Trust's seductive vocal and Katy B style 'woo-woo's in the background.
Bible Eyes is an extremely mature and accomplished debut and sits well on Night Slugs' label. As with a lot of their output, it's not for peak time. Whilst the odd track might wriggle it's way onto the dance floor at 4am it's more likely that this'll be an album for home listening when your mood is as deep and dark as Egyptrixx's.

TEED or Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs hails from Oxford and has been turning heads with his Vocalised bleeps and beats for a good 12 months now. His first EP 'All in One Sixty Dancehalls' was released on Greco-Roman in May 2009 and while a little indistinct it laid the platform for the critically well received 'All in Two Sixty Dancehalls' and 'Household Goods' EP's. His sound now has its own distinctive edge, pushing the vocals to the front and expertly blending emotive moments with crunching synths and beats. So good is the TEED sound that he is increasingly in demand to take it on the road in the UK and beyond, culminating in a recently confirmed 7 date US tour. For our US readers among you, we strongly recommend getting yourself to one of these shows as his 'Live DJ Sets' always rock the party hard (check the mini-mix below).

Whilst a large proportion of the DJ/Producer House market has been erring towards the more classic Vocal led Chicago House sound in recent months there are a select few who have opted to listen more closely to the Detroit House sound. Detroit House or Techno inspired the birth of Dance music on a global scale and it seems fitting after more than 25 years since Disco died and Dance was born that the new generation of producers are taking reference from the past to create the sounds of the future. Julio Bashmore is one of said producers releasing EPs that effortlessly combine the classic 808 & 909 sounds with the more current intelligent dubstep type sounds that the likes of Night Slugs, Hessle Audio and others have been pushing. Already this year Julio has released the superb 'Everybody Needs A Theme Tune EP' and in March he releases his 'Batty Knee Dance EP' on Martyn's 3024 label. Julio Bashmore is an extremely talented producer as both these EPs attest to, and is someone who will be the talk of the town in 2011 and beyond.
We also recommend checking his Batak Groove, Chazm and Dirtybird EP's as well as his Hypno - War Demons Remix.

Boys Noize teams up with fellow label mate Housemeister to release the banging 3 track 'Shizzo EP'. All three tracks are bleeping distorted ear drum destroyers of the highest quality, with a little disco groove thrown in for the weekend. We recommend all three tracks if you like your music intense, noisy, and distorted.

Icicle of Shogun Audio preempts the release of his 'Dreadnaught' single with what appears to be a video homage to Transformers and The Battle of the Planets.'Dreadnaught' is released Feb 28th and is taken from the highly anticipated debut album 'Under the Ice'
Not much is known of this mystery figure other than he is a Frenchman described by Turbo as 'Brodinkelstein' (read into that what you will) with a penchant for writing driving peak time Electro tinged Techno beasts, the sort of records you would expect to hear Erol and Boys Noize smashing.
Gesaffelstein first came to our attention via the superb Variations EP, released on Turbo late 2010. The EP takes the Techno template and pumps it full of arpeggiated almost Acid sounding synth hooks which are driven along by rolling techno beats and thumping sub-bass before being stripped back into atmospherically reverbed break downs and body twitching drops. We recommend the whole EP, however if we had to pick; 'Glass', 'Atmosphere' and 'A Lost Era' standout (listen below):
