Kele - Tenderoni

Kele Okereke the lead singer from Bloc Party has gone solo and his first offering Tenderoni suggests that his debut solo LP "Boxer" released June 21st could actually be worth a listen unlike some of the more disappointing Bloc Party LPs that never quite lived up to the hype and class of "Silent Alarm". However its important to note that this opening assault is much more firmly aimed at the Club than the Stage with a very strong House led sound that is not that dissimilar to a Guetta or Calvin production. This comparison may put some of you off, and if you do find the original a little too chart friendly for your delicate palette then head straight for the more stripped down Electro Dub from XXXChange.

Take a listen below to the LOW BIT STREAM ONLY clip below:

DiSapia - Pollum EP

Thomas DiSapia has been sending us links to his music for sometime and I can only apologise for not getting this post together earlier. However a fresh new EP in the inbox has prompted me to delay no further and introduce you to London based producer and DJ, DiSapia.

DiSapia's tracks are of the deeper house variety layering a whole host of sounds and hooks into a melodic and often atmospheric piece, whilst maintaining a dance floor centric purpose with its distinctive peronsality and warmth. This is not your usual generic deep / tech house fodder but rather music with real character. Take a listen:

1. DiSapia - Indigo

2. DiSapia - Nobu (Pollum EP)

3. DiSapia - A Little Melody

The above tracks are just a sample of DiSapia's work check his Soundcloud account for a full back catalogue.

Grizzly Records - Brodinski

Grizzly Records are preparing for their 2nd release in the shape of French favorite Brodinski. Despite Brodinski's protestations he has a deep hankering for all things Hip Hop, this is anything but as the strangled warped vocal builds into what can only be described as a growling techy electro banger. Whilst the original is a top piece of work full marks has to go to Tony Senghore and his Staggering Dagger Mix, which many a DJ will be packing this summer. The third mix on the package comes from Night Slugs favorite Egyptrixx, also worth a listen.

Check the LOW BIT STREAMS below to listen, full EP is released May 24th.

The Grizzly label was set up with the prime intention of promoting the unpigeonhole-able, in Sinden's words the ‘grey area’ sounds, music you can’t quite put your finger on, stuff that sits between genres and puzzles you at the same time. Well what ever the intention the first two EPs have made Grizzly one of the most exciting labels to emerge in 2010 and Sinden commented today that the "3rd EP "WAFA - Ewid Disco (remixes from Drop the Lime & TEED) is also a BANGER" and there are already plans for a 4th release over the summer.

BONUS - You can get your hands on the Tony Senghore remix via Discobelle (Click Here)

In Flagranti - Through the Rabbit Hole

Following on from the massively received 'Ex Ex Ex' single, In Flagranti take a break from the dancefloor with this atmospheric balearic tune featuring, once again, the languid vocals of Natalie Smash. Cheap drum machine sounds and a cardboard box percussive groove are layered with arpeggiated synth drops and a dreamy vocal. In Flagranti's Sasha Crnobrnja said "We were inspired by early cosmic songs we used to listen to, tracks that were a little more odd, and also less disco." Remixes come from Moskow, Clap Rules, Baldelli & Dionigi and Deadstock 33. For us the Original and the Moskow mixes stand out from the pack, but all are worth a listen.....

Must Have Tracks - Renaissance Man

Renaissance Man have been a little of quiet of late apart from the odd remix, but it would appear that this down time hasn't been spent idly checking Facebook every 10 mins or sending Twitter messages on where they are playing this week but rather recording their 3rd full EP Babbadabba. Babbadabba follows strongly in the foot steps of Spray Can and Aloha and if you are a fan of their previous work these are a must purchase.

Babbadabba - Released May 24th on Made to Play

Essential Mix - Boy 8 Bit

Boy 8 Bit has been making music since the inception of the Amiga and since those early late 80's / early 90's beginning's he has written some great pieces of electronic music, in particular the track "Suspense is Killing Me" is still a personal favourite. However despite some other well received tracks and remixes such as Fog Bank, Baltic Pine and The Bumblebeez - Rio (Boy 8 Bit Remix) he has suprisingly never had the opportunity to apply his excellent mixing skills to an Essential Mix. This mix is a particular treat as it is nigh on impossible to find a fresh Boy 8 Bit mixtape anywhere!!!!

Diplo vs Tiesto - C'Mon (Musical Freedom)

Cant say I knew this was on the horizon but it would appear two HUGE global production heavy weights have gone head to head to produce what is going to be without doubt a huge dance floor bomb! Think Blau! by Laidback Luke and Lee Mortimer with what appears to be a stronger Tiesto slant and you will have a fair idea of what this track is all about.

Snatch! Records - Riva Starr

We have been long-time admirers of Riva Starr, and having taken over the DJ world through some imperious DJ sets and a great debut LP he has now decided to put his musical passion into his own label Snatch! Records. The label launched early April with Snatch001 - David Keno and Snatch 002 has just landed in the form of Donk Boys of Dirtybird fame. As a DJ and producer the ultimate legacy is your own label and judging by these first two releases Riva Starr is not about to go quietly into the night.

Both EPs offer a strong groove led take on the Dirtybird / Made To Play tech-house stance, whilst not offering anything that will be seen as a definitive moment in musical genre history this is excellent tech-house that will drive many a dancefloor.

You can check all the tracks at Snatch! Records Soundcloud Site, we particuarly like the guitar led groove of "Wait for More" - David Keno.

The Great Escape Festival

The Great Escape Festival is about to descend on our humble home town with three days of the best New Music. Lucky for us we managed to score a few delegate passes so we will be venue hopping with the rest of you trying to catch a glimpse of our favourite artists. With over 350 possibilities across 30 venues its hard to know where to start but we have tried to narrow the list down and recommend a few key acts we will be endeavouring to catch, and hopefully in the course of chasing these acts down we will also discover some other hidden gems.

Fenech Soler are hot dancefloor property right now, having recently collaborated on Groove Armada’s remarkable Paper Romance and remixed the latest Marina & The Diamonds single Hollywood into a club and blog sensation. New single Stop And Stare, released on Moda Music on 19th April, once again taps the band’s gift for radio-friendly hooks and peak time floor filling.

Fenech Soler - Stop & Stare

Alex Metric's grinding electronic output is hugely pop-centric – quirky, offbeat vocals backed with fuzzy, cracked-at-the-edges synths and huge, sing-along choruses. His ethos is to throw together the best bits from his favourite sounds and influences – Eighties synth-pop, filter disco, big beat and indie.

Alex Metric - Head Straight

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool is an electro pop band based in Camden, London, England. They are most known for their track ‘Dance the Way I Feel’ and the Armand van Helden remix included on several mixes over the summer of 2009.

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - Dance the Way I Feel

Wolf Gang is somewhere between the sweet sass of Orange Juice, remaining in light-era Talking Heads and Bryan Ferry, by way of the multilayered pop of Grizzly Bear. It's AMAZING. You can catch him at the Great Escape and word has it he will be back in town at the Recommender in June.

Wolf Gang - Back to Back

Gold Panda hails from Chelmsford, Essex, Gold Panda spent the early part of last year building a reputation as remixer du jour for the likes of Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, Health and The Field, before releasing three EPs of his own material in the summer to huge critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, Dazed and Confused, The Guardian, NME and beyond. Live performances soon followed and his invigorated head hunched style quickly won further fans as well as establishing him as an artist who could play live rather than just prod at an expensive laptop.

Gold Panda - Back Home

Phenomenal Handclap Band with their multitudinous influences, blending funk, soul, reggae, dance, hip-hop and Brazilian beat, as well as rock, disco and electro, they encapsulate the spirit of the Brooklyn underground.

Phenomenal Handclap Band - 15 to 20

Primary 1 has been creeping on to people’s radars for the last few years and with his forthcoming album due out in the Autumn produced by Zdar (Pheonix/Cut-copy/Rapture), and support tour with Miss Goulding

Primary 1 - Blues (Ft Nina Persson)

All words thanks to various Myspace accounts the Times and NME.

Must Have Tracks - Cottam - Untitled EPs

After a long night watching the election whilst trying to scour the internet for fresh new music, I came up dissapointed on both counts, with a political system and an itunes account both lacking fresh ideas...so it was quite a relief checking my feeds today to find Pelski's latest post has brought my attention to the emerging UK producer, Cottam. In Pelski's words think "rough vintage percussion topped by delicious African vocals: funky, elated and impossibly upbeat".

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening (Album Review)

LCD Soundsystem are back with a new album. 'This Is Happening' has some big shoes to step into as it follows 2007's critically acclaimed 'Sound Of Silver'. Thankfully James Murphy and co are already garnering some very positive reviews and they're about to get another one.

LCD Soundsystem work like magicians, taking generally accepted norms of songwriting, sawing them in half and joining them back together the wrong way around. Where most albums would come out swinging, the first track on 'This Is Happening' is initially a hushed ballad with skittering claps and the tiniest hint of synth. It eventually kicks in with a much more driving melody and James Murphy's animated vocals yelling and sighing until he's completely out of breath. For any other act it would be their last track, clocking in at an album closing nine minutes, but that wouldn't be extraordinary enough for these entertainers.

All over this album LCD have subverted expectations and created something that shouldn't really work. Under close inspection the album lacks any real flow with energetic tracks like 'Drunk Girls' sitting awkwardly between the much subtler 'Dance Yrself Clean' and 'One Touch' both of which are propelled lazily along by ticking percussion, warbling synths and laconic, Nancy Whang backed chants. The songs, like a magician's three solid rings, initially look like they can't be joined together. LCD clumsily bang them against each other with fade outs and drum kits falling down stair wells until they form a chain. However, none of this is apparent, the content is so fulfilling and distracting that the segues happen in the background and Murphy's sleight of hand coerces your ears into ignoring them.

Album highlights are 'All I Want' and 'I Can Change'. The former, a heartfelt track with sliding, wailing guitars, malfunctioning arpeggiators and more than a nod to David Bowie's 'Heroes'. The latter, a sing your heart out dance number that makes you choke back a few tears in the same way that 'All My Friends' had us simultaneously shuffling and streaming.

LCD Soundsystem have pulled a huge, gleaming white rabbit out of a battered old top hat right in front of our eyes. Proving that less is more, the simplicity of the instrumentation and James Murphy's colloquial spoken word leave plenty of room for 'This Is Happening' to be saturated with emotion rather than unnecessary noise. It's dance music with feeling or it's feeling with dance music. Either way it's the kind of magic that survives close scrutiny and when Murphy rolls up his sleeves the only thing he exposes is his heart.

This Is Happening is released 18th May in the UK and can be listened to in full on the LCD Soundsystem website Click Here
